AI Visibility Checker

Paste a URL and get a 0 to 100 score for how easy the page is for ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude to quote, with fixes sorted by points. Every check is compared with 568 pages those engines actually cited.

Pasted text never leaves your browser. URLs are fetched once to read the HTML and robots.txt; nothing is stored.

Page scores well and still isn't cited?

Engines also look for your brand on other sites. CommunityMentions places real brand mentions in Reddit threads and communities, the pages AI answers quote most.

What 568 pages cited by AI have in common

Cited pages score a median of 82 out of 100 on this checker, and half of them land between 72 and 89. We collected 2,008 answers from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Grok between 2026-09-26 and 2026-10-02, pulled the 4,836 pages they cited, sampled 700 (at most 2 per domain), and scored the 568 that served readable HTML to a normal browser request.

Nearly every cited page let AI crawlers in, opened sections with the subject named, and served its text in the HTML. Question-style headings (25%) and FAQ blocks (27%) were the exception, so this checker weights them least. These are traits of pages that were cited, which shows what engines can work with; it is not proof that any one feature causes a citation.

Download the scored sample: ai-cited-pages-2026-10.csv (568 rows: URL, engines that cited it, score and every check). The questions behind the answers covered pie charts, newsletter sponsorship, conference data, Reddit marketing, doctor email lists and foundation soils, so the sample leans toward software and data topics.

How the score is built

Each check returns a value from 0 to 1, multiplied by its weight, and the total is scaled to 100. A URL gets all 13 checks. Pasted HTML skips crawler access, and pasted plain text also skips the HTML, schema, title, meta and date checks; skipped checks leave the denominator so the score stays fair. The rules run in your browser with no AI model, so the same page always gets the same score.

Scripts and AI agents can call the same scorer: GET https://howtogetmentionedbyai.com/api/score?url=https://example.com/page returns the score, each check, its fix and the share of cited pages that pass it, as JSON.

Frequently asked questions

What does the AI Visibility Checker score?

The checker scores 13 page features that AI answer engines lift citations from, such as answer-first openings, text readable without JavaScript, tables, numbers and AI crawler access, and adds them into a 0 to 100 score. The median page that ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude or Grok cited in our sample scored 82.

Do I need FAQ schema to get cited by AI?

No. Only 27% of the 568 cited pages we scored had FAQPage or QAPage schema, and only 25% phrased most headings as questions. Features almost every cited page shared were AI crawler access (94%), sections that stand alone (89%) and text readable without JavaScript (84%).

Will a score of 100 get my page cited?

No score guarantees a citation. Engines also weigh whether your page ranks for the query, whether other sites mention you, and how well the page answers the exact question. The score tells you whether the page is easy to quote once an engine finds it.

Is my page or URL stored?

No. Pasted HTML is scored in your browser and never sent anywhere. A URL is fetched once by our server so your browser can read it, then scored in your browser. Nothing is logged or kept.

Why does the checker say my content is not readable without JavaScript?

The checker counts the words in the HTML your server sends, before any script runs. Most AI crawlers read that raw HTML and do not run JavaScript, so a page that builds its text in the browser can look empty to them. Server rendering or static generation fixes it.
